Congrats, diligent reader, on finding your way to my bio.

When not on an airplane, I reside in the US Midwest (think corn!). I travel semi-regularly to the UK, Amsterdam and Hamburg for business. Somewhere along the way during an extended trip to Hamburg, I started a love affair with Hamburg SV, mostly as a way of making small talk with my German colleagues.

As a kid, my exposure to the Bundesliga came from Toby Charles and “Soccer Made in Germany” on Sunday afternoons on the Denver PBS affiliate KRMA. In those days, I loved Bayern Munich and had a big man-crush on Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.  The greatest match I’ve ever seen was the 1982 WC semi between West Germany and France (yep-I’m that old–I was in my early teens in 1982). I watched it on Univision in my basement and our TV did not have a UHF antenna.

I am an unabashed Chelsea supporter, and also have a great fondness for Atletico Madrid.
