HSV – Celtic Rantbox

By: Chris | October 22nd, 2009

Again, a tip of the creative cap to the Chelsea Offside’s Jack, who as far as I know, came up with the idea. Match goes at 2005 local time, and 1405 CDT at Hamburg Offside headquarters here in the US Midwest.  The match will not be televised in the US, and so I will be following along on a game cast; if anyone has a link to a good video feed please post it.

Also, Berg with a decent chance on the counter after a miss by Celtic. All that was like 10 min ago.

Pitroipa puts all his weight into that shot but in his case that equals a soft flick.

Half time. Commentary makes it sound as though Celtic are fully in control. . .

Hapoel is breaking out the whup-ass on Rapid, 3:1. I wonder who will be top of this group when the day is complete?

Is it head to head or goal differential? If it’s the latter then Hapoel will top the group unless Celtic fall apart now.

BTW: Berg feels right at home in the Europa League. Now he only needs to break the deadlock in the Bundesliga.

I was thinking that too, I think hes tied for top goal scorer or close to it in the EL…
Also, nice bit of possession for the last while.
Until that umpteenth close call there-Troche has overcommitted a few times now…
    And the Yellow.

Trochowski marches into the box has three options for passes and instead takes the shot which is easily blocked. That was a trademark Trochowski move unfortunately.

He hasn’t impressed at all tonight.
On the other hand, The D has been solid. I might do the writeup if you want chris.

Full time. 1-0 HSV. Somehow it feels like we stole that one.

It’s easier said than done with the two star strikers out, but Hamburg really need to learn to be more clinical and to finish off matches. On another day one of the Celtic chances will somehow end up in the net. Anyway, on paper that was the most difficult match of the group stage – in reality it may be the away game against Hapoel?

The experiment with Elia on the right: interesting but no need to hurry repeating it I think.

HSV didn’t steal it outright I think. Celtic got their chances but so did HSV and while it doesn’t buy you anything: HSV’s game was overall a bit more advanced in terms of organization, passing and build up play.

Final note – HSV top group C according to UEFA. Here’s the current standings:

    Group C Pld Pts
    Hamburg 3 6
    H. Tel-Aviv 3 6
    Rapid Wien 3 4
    Celtic 3 1

It’s head to head then. Good news for Hamburg as long as they aren’t tied on points with Vienna. :-)
