Bring on Bremen, Redux

By: Chris | Comments 2 Comments

Chalk one up for the success of avoiding predictions. Hamburg have the Northern Derby mid-week against arch rival Werder Bremen at the Bank (See how I’ve taken to calling the ground by some sort of nickname based on the ground’s naming sponsor? It’s quite the thing to do in American sports journalism. And if I [...]

Resolution? Ha!

By: Chris | Comments 2 Comments

We should know by the end of this week month season year decade who the new manager is. There really isn’t anything else left to write about this season.
Last week in this space, I speculated that the club’s directors hadn’t talked to Ex-Spurs boss Martin Jol about the post in a while. Turns out I am pretty [...]

Short and sweet

By: Chris | Comments 3 Comments

Tomorrow is the second of HSV’s six-pointers versus other Bundesliga contenders. Ha. HSV aren’t contenders anymore. If they somehow manage to sneak into the CL qualifying, they will have done so because one of the contenders (Schalke, Bremen, Stuttgart) somehow slipped up and spit the bit.

Nevermind

By: Chris | Comments 9 Comments

Nevermind that the Dinosaur lost to Duisburg (?!) at home Saturday. Nevermind that 4 regulars will be missing from the next match, including captain VDV. Nevermind that the side are in a complete freefall (I have had Tom Petty in my head non-stop since Saturday morning) right now, having collected exactly 2 points in their [...]

HSV - Vfb Stuttgart Preview

By: Chris | Comments 4 Comments

The big match this weekend in the Bundesliga. Hamburg come in trying to regain their form, which they apparently left on the pitch in their last UEFA Cup match versus Leverkusen, while Stuttgart comes in a pretty big roll–to the tune of 4 wins in their last 5 matches at home. Vfb also come in [...]

Hamburg - Bielefeld Preview

By: Chris | Comments 2 Comments

HSV meet Arminia Bielefeld Saturday at the HSH. Huzzah! Hamburg come into the match 2nd in the Bundesliga on 46 points, but only 2 points up on Leverkusen, Bremen and Schalke (in 3rd through 5th places, respectively), and thus need the whole 3 points from this match against the bottom feeders. Hamburg have 3 wins and [...]

Danke Bochum!

By: Chris | Comments 1 Comment

Hamburg cruised to a 4-1 home victory over Frankfurt on Sunday, on a brace by Paolo Guerrero, and tallies Nigel de Jong and Mohamed Zidan. The match saw Huub really open up the offense and let the guys play. The highlights I’ve seen were superb, and if anything, HSV didn’t capitalize on all the chances [...]

Winner! Winner! Lobster dinner!

By: Chris | Comments 6 Comments

Updated :  Bundesliga Offside captain Jan has a nice write-up on the Intertoto Cup “victory”. Read it here.
Overlooked in this space and others on The Offside was the fact that HSV backed into the Intertoto Cup as Atletico Madrid were ousted from the UEFA Cup in the Round of 32. So we got that going for us, [...]

Whither thou goest, van der Vaart

By: Chris | Comments 1 Comment

How cool is it to get scooped by the Main Page and the guy that writes a blog about your club’s association on the same day?  I had it coming since I have been avoiding the subject for a long time.

Dinamo Zagreb - Hamburger SV Preview

By: Chris | Comments 3 Comments

Hamburg face reigning Croat champions Dinamo Zagreb this evening in UEFA Cup action at the Maksimir in Zagreb–a notoriously difficult place to visit. The match is also a homecoming for Ivica Olic, who scored 16 goals in 27 games for Dinamo in the 2002/2003 season.
