Where’d that come from?

To all that read this blog, my apologies–I’ve been on a wonderful and well-deserved holiday sans laptop for over a week.

Circling the drain

By: Chris | Comments 2 Comments

Our Hanseaten heroes are back to their blundering ways, having lost any momentum they may have gained in their well-played defeat to Bremen, with their away loss to relegation-strugglers Cottbus. Cottbus, for their part, ensured that they will stay in the 1. Bundesliga with a victory. Not sure what else there is to say about [...]

Nevermind

By: Chris | Comments 9 Comments

Nevermind that the Dinosaur lost to Duisburg (?!) at home Saturday. Nevermind that 4 regulars will be missing from the next match, including captain VDV. Nevermind that the side are in a complete freefall (I have had Tom Petty in my head non-stop since Saturday morning) right now, having collected exactly 2 points in their [...]

Monday mourning

Turns out I am a realist. HSV dropped to third in the Bundesliga after Saturday’s away defeat to current title-holders Stuttgart, 1-0. The story of the match was Hamburg’s failure to capitalize on opportunities, particularly in the 2nd half when the practically camped out in the Stuttgart end. But in the end, they failed to score [...]

I can’t make this sh*t up

Top of the table drops 2 points on the road in the Bavarian derby, 3rd and 4th place are both defeated, and all HSV can manage is a draw versus a team in the drop zone.  Way to see the big picture and take the bull by the horns. Oh, and Schalke leapt from fifth to third with [...]

Seeing red

. . . and not Rothosen.  Saturday past saw HSV take a point from Wolfsburg at the VW Arena, on a first half goal by ‘Basi Reinhardt of all people. The final 10 minutes of the match were marred by a couple of red cards which leave Hamburg without the invaluable services of Da Man, [...]

Danke Bochum!

Hamburg cruised to a 4-1 home victory over Frankfurt on Sunday, on a brace by Paolo Guerrero, and tallies Nigel de Jong and Mohamed Zidan. The match saw Huub really open up the offense and let the guys play. The highlights I’ve seen were superb, and if anything, HSV didn’t capitalize on all the chances [...]

That’s more like it

By: Chris | Comments 3 Comments

A 3-0 beatdown of relegation-bound Bochum in the B’liga and a 3-1 away win at Zurich in the UEFA Cup are the highlights of last week’s action. THAT’S what I’m talking about! We finally got the offense and the defense on the pitch together. Czech international David Jarolim contributed his first 2 goals of the season, a major [...]

Brilliance

By: Chris | Comments 5 Comments

I hate writing that about an opposing side’s keeper, but that’s exactly how to describe the performance of Cottbus’ Gerry Tremmel versus HSV on Saturday. And because of Tremmel’s brilliance, Cottbus stole a point from Hamburg and HSV failed to gain on either Bayern or Bremen in the table.
