A house divided

The Jarolim family is choosing sides for Thursday’s UEFA Cup tie between Die Rothosen and SK Slavia Prague.

Hamburg’s captain David Jarolim squares off against his former club tomorrow at the gorgeous new Stadion Eden , and this time, it’s personal. No really. Slavia is managed by his old man Karel, and his cousin Marek is a midfielder. Here’s an interview with Jarolim about who’s choosing what side–his mom wants David to win, his sis favors Slavia.

After a mixed bag of results over the past ten days, HSV have to have this match. If they win, they are through to the knockout round of the UEFA Cup. Lose or draw and they will have to win over Aston Villa at home on 17 December–a tall order to be sure. Slavia are no cupcakes either. They currently lead the Czech first division on 37 points from 16 matches (11 victories, 4 draws, 1 defeat).

Here’s a little more background information on the match from the UEFA website.

No new injuries to report for Hamburg. One item of note from the Bochum debacle–Thiago Neves started in the midfield ahead of German international Piotr Trochowski, and Trochowski wasn’t too happy about it.

Not sure I have a good feeling for this match, but since HSV have been all over the place, I am going to counteract my better judgement and go with a 2:1 HSV victory. Heaven help us.

(Note: I will get back to regular posting again. My vocation has once again interfered with my avocation and I have had zero spare time between work and the Thanksgiving holiday.)
