HSV are reviewing the videotapes, but there aren’t as many cameras in the Nordbank Arena as there are in an English ground, and it will be difficult to identify the muppet without an eyewitness.

They’ve also issued a formal apology to Baumann and the entire Bremen team (following up on statements to the same effect immediately after the match; it’s a very classy organisation).

No word yet as to whether the SOB who threw the battery has been caught. I keep checking the local papers. I will update as I get details.

Olic’s goal was especially sweet, scoring against hated Werder. Given HSV’s performances at home, the lapses on the road are real head scratchers. I have to admit, I thought the equalizer was coming given how many free kicks and how many Werder men were left unmarked in the box in the last 10 minutes.

I was dismayed that a fan threw a battery at Baumann. Any word if the lout who tossed it was caught? That’s the kind of bush league crap that is a flat out embarrassment for a club and its fans.

Well, there’s a first for everything. I am looking forward to the UEFA Cup match on Thursday versus Ajax. I have spent a lot of time in Amsterdam, and Ajax also have a special place in my heart.

At least the final result turned out the way I wanted (given I was going for Hamburg winning this derby). If not for the amazing goals (Olic’s goal deserves a special mention), not really a good match as a whole. Or poor, as Jan will say.

Jan – I wanted to say I agree with your comments but finding similar issues with many Bundesliga matches as defending is horrible.

That was a poor football match. Kudos to Hamburg for charging a derby premium price for the tickets. At least the goals were great, especially Olic’s winner.

I would give Bremen credit for having a bit more structure in their game. But they also played dirty at times. Diego dived to win a free kick from a good position, Frings feigned an injury and stopped a Hamburg attack, maybe there was more.

Jansen didn’t get injured, but in his current form he is neither very good defensively, nor dynamic going forward. I would play Aogo instead of him at the moment. I also hope that Silva proves to be an able Reinhardt replacement in the near future.

I will definitely watch this one. I’m hoping for a great match. While I enjoyed watching Bremen a lot over the past few years, I’m ready for a change of guard in the north. Especially since I’m fed up with Bremen’s Champions League performances. Although at the moment, neither of the two clubs look like favorites for a CL spot.
