Fixtures set
By: Chris | July 3rd, 2008The fixtures for next season have been published by the DFB, and HSV open on the road at current holders Bayern on 15 August 15 in the “traditional” Friday night opener of the Bundesliga season.
The match will be the first at the helm for bosses of both clubs–Martin Jol of Hamburg (who, from henceforth, will be referred to as BMJ [Big Martin Jol--a moniker that has stuck with him since his days with Spurs] in this space) and Jürgen Klinsmen of Bayern–and should be a cracker, as HSV are have not suffered defeat at the Allianz-Arena since it opened 3 years prior.
Also of interest to Rothosen supporters are the dates of the Nord-derby with Bremen (boo! hiss!) on Match Days 14 (21-23 November, at home) and 31 (8-10 May, away). The fixtures play out such that HSV are on home and away on alternating weeks in the Bundesliga, save for back-to-back road games versus Bochum and Koln/Cologne at the end of the first half, and the corresponding home fixtures to conclude the campaign in May.

‘“traditional” Friday night opener’
And of all Fridays, they chose my birthday to begin the new season. Sweet.Yeah right, dream on. But serious, that day is actually my birthday.
Anyhow, a Happy 4th of July from a non-American.
Hope your foot is getting better!Posted from

Thanks Diana. I’ll be sure to toast you when I watch the match on the 15th. July 4th is always one of my favorite holidays, but this one was difficult in that I couldn’t go swimming with the children and the weather was quite warm. Sigh. My leg is healing quite nicely; I will be out of my surgical cast and off crutches on 15 July. REALLY looking forward to that date. I will likely be playing football again next summer.
