Fun while it lasted
By: Chris | October 6th, 2009This stay at the top of the table, yeah, enjoy it while you can. ‘Cause chances are we aren’t hanging around too much longer. . .
News today that in-form striker Mladen Petric is out until the Winter Break following an ankle injury suffered in the Hertha match Sunday. So, no, I am not sorry at all the their shitty 3rd string keeper gave away two goals–we’re going to need all the points we can get with both our starting forwards out. Oh, and Petric is having surgery tomorrow in Basel, Switzerland to repair tendon damage. So if you’re keeping score at home, that’s our top 2 strikers both down with injuries until January and February.
So who’s going to fill in? Likely Tunay Torun, who has been playing quite well as of late, and Tolgay Arslan, who has not yet made an appearance this season. More news as this plays out.

I took a look at Hamburg’s schedule and as far as big games are concerned there are two coming up next (vs Leverkusen and Schalke) and two by the end of the Hinrunde (vs Hoffenheim and Bremen); stuffed in between are more or less relegation candidates. Of the big games three are at home which could help compensate for some of the missing quality.
Mopo answered some questions regarding Petric’s injury (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mopo.de%2F2009%2F20091007%2Fsport%2Fhsv%2Ferst_im_winter_soll_ein_neuer_star_kommen_wird_es_van_der_vaart.html)
They speculate that Labbadia will keep his 4-4-2 system, so there goes my 4-3-3 idea.
A loan deal regarding van der Vaart could be an option in the winter and the long term injuries will save around €2m in wages, which would be available for e.g. the vdV loan deal.Posted from
