Hamburg-Gladbach Living DEAD blog!

By: g? | October 31st, 2009

Since I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use that title, I’ll be giving a vague commentary while I search for a live stream. So it’s technically accurate.

30′ We’re leading 1-0 on a Trochowski strike. That makes us top of the table.

35-39′ Elia and Berg almost score, respectively.

39′ AHH! Equalizer-Gladbach. Though I couldn’t see who it was. Edit-Marco Reus was the one, who got in on a breakaway and lobbed over Rost

HZ- Halftime in the HH. 1-1, thanks to Reus’ equalizer for the fortunate Fohlen.

47′ TORRRRRRRR FÜR HAMBURG!!!! ZÉ on the direct free in the top right corner! What an amazing buy he turned out to be… 2-1 Hamburg lead again, only 2 minutes into the 2nd half.

50′ Boateng looks hurt. Rozehnal is still suspended from last week. We’ll see if he can continue… BAD sign

61′ Good chance for Gladbach-Arango header over the top.

64′ Labbadia continuing to leave Jerome on the field, even as he grimaces in pain. Don’t let another player get a long term injury…

72′ Good shot from Jarolim is stopped by the keeper.

75′ EQUALIZER GLADBACH. This after a clear PK was denied after a tackle on Pitroipa

77′ BOATENG! WTF MAN! ALMOST GAVE AWAY THE GAME! BAAAAD backpass almost killed us there.

79′ We NEED all 3 points today. Esp. with all the ties we’ve had recently.

82′ Friend takes the lead for Gladbach. Oh dear.

My title seems oddly fitting now…

spielaus. First loss in the BL this season. To GLADBACH. That hurts. Especially having seen the missed PK call for us that could’ve made it 3-1.

Damn.

Hamburg can’t defend their leads / can’t put a match beyond doubt. That’s a major flaw in Hamburg’s game this season.

I think this game in particular will have quite a backlash as far as Boateng and Labbadia are concerned. Boateng was playing through pain but signaled he would like to play on and Labbadia left him on the pitch. In retrospect that was a big mistake. Labbadia should have subbed off Boateng and moved Demel into the center – e.g. Rincon could have played on Demel’s position. It was so obvious for everyone to see that leaving Boateng on the pitch was a big risk, bigger than playing another player out of position I think.

Hamburg have given up a lot of easy points so far. The good news is that other teams have done the same. Though, in case of e.g. Bayern you feel that once they have their superstar wingers back, that they will no longer do that as frequently. In case of Hamburg you may have doubts though, as this is clearly a problem of Hamburg’s defense and not their (crippled) offense.

Yeah I still don’t understand why Boateng was left on, even if he wanted to keep playing, he was grimacing the last half hour, as one of the stars on an injury plagued team. In defense of the defense, the offense should have been able to hold the ball, to prevent the counters that killed us so often…

USA HSV fans: The Celtic return leg will be on GolTV. Also, if you are a DirecTV subscriber with the sports pack, the Celtic match will be in glorious HD on the UEFA channels in the 460’s.

Anyone see the Hannover match? I thought the ref was garbage. He didn’t take control of things early on, so Hannover was allowed to play dirty. And then of course when things got out of hand, he started dealing out yellow cards all over the place to both teams. I think Hamburg was trying not to get dragged into the dirty play, but a few times they retaliated and got cards themselves. I also think that the penalty shot wasn’t warranted. Running into a guy head-on and then falling down is a bit much if you ask me. Rincon wasn’t at fault I think. I think he played very well coming in for Boateng.

The PK call was a joke. The replay showed that Rincon used one of his arms a bit, but you can’t blame him as it looked rather accidental and not in an attempt to stop the player. Hamburg had the great chance to top the league last week and to keep pace with Leverkusen this week and that’s really disappointing. Now, since Hamburg can’t seem to get the easy points they’ll have to beat Werder and Hoffenheim in the six-pointer games and then they’ll still be in an excellent position by Christmas.

I like what I’ve seen of Rincon as well. Boateng could have replaced Rozehnal in the center and Rincon could have started the match and the defense would have been better for it. And it’s worth noting that Rincon is playing out of position as he is really a midfielder and not a full back. Unfortunately, Hamburg will probably not buy him in the winter, when his loan deal expires, as they need money to strengthen the offense I guess. But for me this is a player that other Bundesliga clubs should keep an eye on. Great spirit, good teamplayer who is not moaning and bitching, humble and obviously quite talented.

I didn’t realize Rincon was on loan. I think they should keep him, given their tendency for injuries in defence. I noticed that they started trying Rincon out at right back during the pre-season, which I think was a smart move. I don’t think he would see any time in the mid-field given the talent HSV has there! By the way, it was also great to see Jansen score a goal, and the play between him and Elia looked good.

I now interrupt this spam to announce that the injury bug has bitten HSV again. According to goal.com, Ze Roberto is out with torn ankle ligaments likely until the new year. AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!

He’ll definitely be out of the Bochum game. Forecasting anything beyond that is difficult. Due to his age he may need a bit more time to recover, but I haven’t read anywhere that he’ll be out until the new year. In the best case scenario he’ll be back after Bochum, in the worst case he might not be back until the Hoffenheim game. A great chance for the likes of Tavares, Rincon and Tesche to prove themselves. Always look on the bright side of football. :-)
