Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
By: Chris | January 22nd, 2010I am not sure how I missed this one while gathering news ahead of the Dortmund match Saturday, but it sounds as though HSV have solved their striker problem with some flair. Who is this mystery man? The answer is after the jump.

Rutgerus.
Johannes.
Matinius.
van Nistelrooy.
“Van the Man”.
Sweet.
Yes-Ruud’s best days are behind him at age 33. But we need somebody who can A) walk, and B) finish. RVN has been out of the Real lineup since suffering a knee injury in November 2008 (he’s played 12 minutes this year but that’s it since late 2008). According to the NDR web site, RVN has agreed to come to Hamburg on a free loan to the end of the current season. It’s not as though he’s trying to keep a place on the Oranje (he retired from international football following the ‘08 Euro), so the dude must have the competitive juices flowing or something.
Right now West Ham and Spurs are both said to be preparing offers, but Ruud says he has committed to Hamburg. He’s supposedly staying in Madrid for their match Saturday versus Malaga and then coming to Hamburg Monday for a physical. More to come as this story develops.

Just read a while back that Harry Redknapp has ruled it out. So Spurs off the list then, Chris.
‘More to come as this story develops.’
Hope so. I have to say, speaking as a ManU supporter, for a period of time I was pissed off when he was being shown the door. He was one of my favourite players when he was still at the club.

I’m really hoping for this one to get finalized. I also heard about a potential loan of Huntelaar from Milan. Any news on that one? If we get either striker that would be great. I’m still hoping for more out of Marcus Berg too. You can tell he has talent, but he seems to struggle in the league matches for some reason.

Mark, I would say that if Van the Man is on his way (and that’s why I posted the link to the NDR story–they’re not Bild so it sounds pretty credible) Monday, then I think that KJH will be staying put or (more likely) moving on to the EPL.

I wanted to add an update too. Seems that Ruud retired from international football because he wasn’t getting along with Marco van Basten. Now that Bert van Marwijk is the coach of the Oranje, he wants back in and needs to play first team football SOMEWHERE. He called VDV, De Jong and Mathijsen to get their input and they all thought he would be wildly successful.

Sounds like a very good move for HSV as they need someone around the box area that can put the ball into the net regularly. Just make sure you give him his vitamins because he has had his fair share of injuries lately! I wonder if the loan has an option to buy at the end?

What happened with Dortmund today? I didn’t get home in time to see it.

1-0 loss to Dortmund yesterday. Big time disappointment. But the news of Van Nistelrooy officially signing has softened the blow a bit. I also heard that Tavares and Alex Silva have been loaned out. Tavares makes sense to me, but why Silva? Is his injury even healed yet?

-

The Silva loan deal surprised me as well. Rozehnal isn’t playing a good season, so I thought Silva might be in a good position to become the first choice backup for Boateng or Mathijsen at least. The quality of the backline beyond the first choice players is rather underwhelming except for Aogo, where Jansen can play his position too. Boateng can play for Demel, but then you have a gap in the center again. I guess Labbadia thought that Silva was even worse than Rozehnal.

-

That’s exactly what I was thinking Jan. Defense is a big area where HSV lacks depth. Demel is prone to injury, so Boateng often has to play on the right (but he’s better in the middle), but if Rozenhal gets injured, what happens then? Rincon has sometimes played on the right, but that’s out of position for him too. The only other thing I can think is that maybe Bastian Reinhardt might be ready to come back from his injury soon? I still think Silva would be better than Rozenhal or Reinhardt.

Enjoy Van Gol. And remember, when he scores the crowd is not booing him, they are all screaming “RUUUUUUUUUUUD!”.
