Holy S**t

By: Chris | May 26th, 2009

A story today on the website of Dutch national broadcasting service NOS  reports that Ajax have agreed to terms with Martin Jol for Jol to become the new gaffer of the Dutch giants. Yikes.  More on this story as I confirm it via other sources.

Bild.de broke the news in Germany. Spiegel Online reports that Didi Beiersdorfer’s position could be questioned as well (last paragraph), following his disappointing winter transfers. Mirko Slomka is already rumored to be Jol’s replacement.

    Un-fucking-believable.

I am really worried. The last manager search took too long and nobody in HSV management were on the same page during the search.

Chris, you know where I first read about it? The website of Holland’s De Telegraaf. They have a dossier on the search to replace Marco van Basten at the club.

Ajax’s latest preferred candidate in Denmark coach Morten Olsen (who used to coach Ajax himself) withdrew himself out of the race. From what I know, it seemed like his employers at the Danish FA does not want Olsen to do a Hiddink. The case of juggling a national team job with a club one at the same time. I think that is how Jol came into the picture.

But still, I swear I almost trembled when I read what I came across from De Telegraaf website. Ajax’s other apparent preferred candidates had already withdrew themselves before the Olsen withdrawal came along. Louis van Gaal’s successor at AZ Alkmaar in Ronald Koeman was said to be in Ajax’s frame, Michael Laudrup withdrew himself out of the race in view of his proficiency in the Dutch language (he used to play in Ajax himself), Frank Rijkaard prefers working in either Italy or England.

There was actually talk that Steve McClaren, the former England coach who is doing well with FC Twente (they came behind Louis van Gaal’s AZ in the Eredivisie actually) was also in the frame actually. But even someone like myself who also watch English football, I almost shuddered at the thought of McClaren linked to Ajax.

No wonder the search to replace Huub Stevens took a long time before BMJ came in. And now come this news out of Jol’s native Holland. Gasp.
