HSV – Wolfsburg Preview
By: Chris | February 28th, 2009Sunday Die Rothosen entertain VfL Wolfsburg at the ‘Bank. And I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am looking for a little payback.
Hamburg have a little added incentive today as they set out to remedy one of the more egregious defeats in recent memory–a 3-nil schelacking at the hands of Felix Magath’s Wolves back on Matchday 5. Oh, and there’s also a little bad blood between these sides since Wolfsburg striker Grafite stomped on the hand of Joris Mathijsen last year. Funny thing was that Grafite wasn’t suspended by the DFB and Mathijsen was . . . Well, Grafite is out of Sunday’s match, but his replacement Edin Dzeko is filling in just fine, thank you very much, having nailed 10 goals in 16 Bundesliga matches so far this campaign. Hamburg are without Collin Benjamin and Jerome Boateng this week (fifth yellow card for each), but the rest of the side look good to go, including Mladen Petric, who returns from a 2 match suspension following a horse-shit red card he received in the loss to Karlsruhe.
Starting XI:
Rost
Demel Gravgaard Mathijsen Aogo
Jarolim Alex Silva
Trochowski Jansen
Petric Olic
SWAG prediction: HSV’s defense has been adequate so far; if their attack were on par with last season, we’d be in BIG TROUBLE. But it isn’t and we’re not. In their last 10 matches versus Wolfsburg at home, Hamburg have won 5, drawn 4 and lost 1, scoring 17 and conceding 10. Make mine 3:2 for HSV.
