I’m off to Germany!

Tomorrow night I fly to Hamburg for a 2 week vacation in Deutschland. First on the agenda: a live HSV match vs. FC Kaiserslautern!!!

If you can’t tell, I’m super-excited to get to see a Hamburg game live. It was a little difficult navigating the German-only online ticket website, but I managed to get pretty good seats in the 2nd row of the 2nd deck. I think we’re facing the player dugouts, so I might be able to see the look of disdain on Mladen Petric’s face as he warms the bench. (That is if he is even fit to play – he apparently picked up an injury in practice and we’re waiting to find out the verdict).

When we planned the trip, we decided to go to the Kaiserslautern game thinking it would be easier to get tickets than the following home game against Bayern. Kaiserslautern? No problem, cake walk right? Well, they are only 1 point behind Hamburg in the table right now and both teams are coming off a draw and 2 losses in their last 3 games. This looks like its shaping up to be a very important game for Hamburg to win against an opponent right at their level. HSV had chances to win both their last 2 games, so I’m hoping they can pull it together on Saturday!

I won’t be able to blog for a couple weeks, but when I get back I hope to have some good pictures from the game, and hopefully the HSV fanshop and the stadium tour if I get a chance to do that.

Just for fun, I’ll leave you with a picture of Marcel Jansen working on his math studies with some local students. Apparently the girls aren’t HSV fans…

Marcel answers the question, "Who want's HSV to win this weekend?" His deskmate is apparently a Kaiserslautern fan.

I don’t know if this weekend’s game will be televised in North America yet, but hopefully you get a chance to watch it. Have a great couple of weeks!

The HSV-1FCK game will be on GolTV Saturday morning in glorious HD. Hopefully HSV will get things turned around. I hope you can get some local reaction to the frustrations that the fans are dealing with during this winless streak.

The game was a great time, but HSV pretty much played like crap. The fans were very restless for most of the game. I can’t believe they were able to pull off a win!

Lot’s of photos to post. Back in a couple weeks.

Hey folks! Back from my trip. I’ll try to post some pictures in the next couple days. In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed watching Hamburg spoil the party for Mainz today with a last minute winner!

Sorry for being a delinquint blogger lately…

Just a reminder though that today Hamburg host Bayern Munich in a classic North-South Bundesliga battle! This is always one of my favourite matches of the season, and Hamburg always give Bayern a real run for their money. The game will be on ESPN 360, but not Gol TV, so I can’t watch it until after work on the good ol’ internet.

Luke from the Bayern Offside has a great preview for the match here: http://bayern.theoffside.com/1-bundesliga/hamburger-sv-vs-fc-bayern-munich-match-preview.html

I even like the scoreline he predicts…Good luck to HSV today!
