New Away Kit

By: Chris | July 13th, 2008

Well, Hamburg aren’t immune to the ways of modern football (Read: Grabbing every red cent available to them from the fanbase), and have presented a new away strip for the upcoming campaign. Photos and reaction after the drop.

HSV 2008/09 Away KitThe new strip (left) takes it’s inspiration from the kit of SC Germania. SC Germania is the oldest of the 3 clubs which preceded HSV. In 1919, SC Germania merged with Hamburger FC and FC Falke to form the side we all know and love as Hamburger Sport-Vereine. It is through the Germania roots that HSV can claim to be the oldest top-flight club in Germany.

Updated: OK-the new one is growing on me. I like it.

2007/08 HSV Away KitPersonally, I think the new strip is rubbish. I *LOVED* the 2007/08 away kit (left). It was classic. Although I must say, the new strip is light years ahead of the 2006/07 camo job that we saw in the old AOL Arena (which is a little joke–the arena is the same; the naming sponsor has changed).

What do y’all think?

really? i thought the 07/08 away jersey was by far the crappiest of their 3, and this one is definitely an improvement. the weird white and blue curvy lines going down the sides never did much for me, and the new one’s got a sort of classic look that i think is much nicer.

that said, though, are they changing their home jerseys? because last year’s were great, and i don’t want them to change ‘em.

Don, They are not changing either the home whites (which are awesome, I agree) nor the 3rd/European reds (which are the sharpest of the lot when worn with the black shorts). AND, after I wrote the post and have had a couple of visits back to it, you know what? The new one is kind of growing on me.

sweet! i agree that the last year’s reds are also great. so now, even if we lose van der vaart as well as all our games this season, at least we’ll look good in every stadium we play in.
