Oh, the humanity!
By: Chris | September 24th, 2008I Tivo’ed the match between HSV and Wolfsburg because I had plans Sunday morning and couldn’t watch it live. When I couldn’t stand the suspense of not at least knowing the score in the second half, I dialed up MyP2P.eu to catch the score. And when I did, a few quotes from Hollywood came to mind.
Like this one from Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) in Apocalypse Now: “The horror . . . the horror . . .”
And this one from Max California (Joaquin Phoenix) in 8mm: “There are some things you see, and you can’t unsee them. Know what I mean?”
Yep-It was that bad. 270 minutes of shoddy defense in the Bundesliga finally caught up with HSV Sunday as Wolfsburg struck early and often for a 3:0 victory. And really, you had to know that this day was coming. After blitzing Frank Rost with 3 goals in less than 30 minutes, Wolves were very content to fall back and keep the ball in front of them. HSV actually had 64% of the possession in this match, but it didn’t matter.

Tonight, HSV take on Bochum in the DFB Cup. BMJ is keeping mum about the starters, but reports from the closed training sessions this week have Mladen Petric teaming with Paolo Guerrero up front, and Ivica Olic on the bench. Petric had 5 goals in the competition last season for Dortmund, and lots of people feel he is the “perfect weapon” for the Cup run. Also, Marcell Jansen was tried at midfield (in addition to Atouba) in an effort to shore up the defense. Thiago Neves, Jerome Boateng, and Alex Silva will join Olic on the bench tonight. Bastian Reinhardt steps into central defense with Joris Mathijsen. Atouba and Guy Demel likely also start in the back tonight. In midfield, as previously noted, we may see Marcell Jansen with Trochowski, Nigel de Jong and David Jarolim getting the other spots. Petric and Guerrero will start up front.
Here’s the recent results for these two sides:
17.02.2008 Hamburg 3:0 Bochum
24.08.2007 Bochum 2:1 Hamburg
05.05.2007 Hambirg 0:3 Bochum
02.12.2006 Bochum 2:1 Hamburg
21.05.2005 Hamburg 0:1 Bochum
11.12.2004 Bochum 1:2 Hamburg
As you can see, Bochum have had HSV’s number recently with four victories in the past six matches. I am not going to venture a prediction, so check in later this week for a review.

Chris, the first picture…it freaked me out. Really. If I suffer nightmares because of that, I will hold you responsible. Nah.
