Olic transfer?

By: Chris | December 4th, 2008

If you follow HSV at all, you know that there have been ongoing negotiations to extend the contract of Ivica Olic. And with each goal he scores, his price goes up.

Olic’s current contract expires in June, and he is free to sign with a new club during the January transfer window. To date, the negotiations have stalled, and other clubs have been circling, notably Liverpool, Juventus, and Valencia. According to a story today in the German football paper Kicker, Juventus and Olic have come to terms and Olic has agreed to a 4 year contract at “more than €3.7M per year”. Olic’s agent, Gordon Stipic, stated that nothing has been agreed to, and no contracts have been signed.  Olic has publicly stated that his first choice was to remain in Hamburg (he and his wife built a house in Hamburg and have made it their permanent home), but recently told Bild that he is now open to offers from other clubs.

Wow. On the one hand, HSV have had it coming by not getting Olic re-signed sooner. On the other, the silly season is upon us nigh, and this may be the first load of BS that we see on this subject.

I swear I almost got a shock when I saw what was on the kicker website earlier today. Considering kicker is one of my main places for Bundesliga and German football news as well. I was already aware of Olic’s future at HSV beforehand.

Me actually had to check with the other websites I frequent and kicker, of all places, reported that. One will have thought this comes from the usual suspect of Bild.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Olic’s agent leaked some information to the press, to put more pressure on Hamburg. I think Hamburg shouldn’t bend over backwards to extend Olic’s contract though. Keeping a balanced and manageable wage structure inside the club is very important, otherwise you end up with a significantly higher wage bill but without significantly better players. And Olic does have his limitations and I’m personally still looking forward to see Chrisantus and Choupo-Moting rocking the Bundesliga.

A priority for Hamburg should be the extension of de Jong’s contract.

The news out of Hamburg is that the young “stars”–Chrisantus, Ben-Hatira, and Odjidja-Ofoe–will all be loaned out soon. Loanee Anton Putsilo is already training with Spartak Moscow, so he’s gone too.

Jan, apparently there is an exclusive (in capital letters as well) from Goal.com in regards to what Olic’s agent has to say of the news. That Olic is not heading to Juventus.

0:1 HSV leads at the break. Goal scored by–Olic. Ka-ching! (that’s the sound of his bank account filling up from his new contract :) )

The Croation combination do it again! Albeit Petric’s was via penalty.

Hamburg top their group with 6pts and +2gd ahead of Aston Villa (6pts/+1) and Ajax (6pts/+1). This makes for an interesting final matchday. Ajax host Prague and since Prague no longer has anything to play for, I currently rate Ajax as most probable group winners. I’m also not sure whether finishing 2nd or 3rd in the group is better. The 2nd placed team could face teams like Fiorentina and Zenit St. Petersburg from the Champions League. 3rd gets another UEFA Cup table topper…

that was a bit ugly for me, the stream i was watching put it well (albeit in german), that both teams spent the first half making mistakes, and jansen (up to that point) was the only real chance. We still need to up the ante on the road.
    nevertheless, im a happy camper!

also, that last penalty was kinda sad to watch…
