Podolski to HSV?
By: Chris | January 6th, 2009There are rumors swirling hourly around disgruntled Bayern striker Lukas Podolski, and one of the latest is a trade to Hamburg.
According to stories in the online editions of both Bild and the Hamburg Morgenpost, HSV sporting direct Didi Beiersdorfer has quietly met with Uli Hoeness and the Bayern management in Dubai regarding Podolski. One of the deals being floated is a trade–Ivica Olic immediately (Olic has already agreed to a new deal with Bayern beginning this summer) and €8M for Podolski. Hamburg recently renewed their shirt deal with Emirates Airlines, to the tune of €7M per season, so the transfer fee is in theory covered by the new deal. Beiersdorfer, to his credit, refuted the details of the meeting today in a story here.
Me? I say we do it. And we’d better do it quickly. Köln reportedly offered the Bavarians €7M to get Poldi back, and Bayern balked. And that has sides such as Roma, Spurs and Manchester City hot on the trail of the German international. Stay tuned–this is getting good.

‘Stay tuned–this is getting good.’
Definitely.Podolski himself had said today that he wants a decision ASAP, and definitely by the end of the month.

And I think I read somewhere that Uli Hoeness had specify €10million for Podolski. I happened to be on the Times website yesterday and on their transfer watch section, they deduced that could allow Spurs and Manchester City to step in. But then, Harry Redknapp has gotten Jermaine Defoe today. In a report of Defoe heading back to White Hart Lane, it said that Redknapp had ‘prioritised a striker and a left-sided midfielder in the current transfer window’ – http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=afp-fblengprtottenhamportsmouthdefoe&prov=afp&type=lgns
One less club on the radar, then?

Here is a better link on what I found of what Podolski said today – http://72.14.235.104/translate_c?hl=en&langpair=auto|en&u=http://de.eurosport.yahoo.com/06012009/30/podolski-wechsel-entscheidung-ende-monats.html&tbb=1&usg=ALkJrhiyrsHJbAsbUu7PS0E9SR_T5dg27g

Never mind. Somehow the links don’t work for me. But Chris, since you said that HSV renewed their shirt with the Emirates Airlines for €7m per season, will the club be able to raise enough money to bring Podolski over? I know BMJ had spoken to both Marcell Jansen and Mark van Bommel and both had spoken highly on Podolski – http://www.sportinglife.com/football/overseas/germany/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=international_feed/09/01/05/SOCCER_Ger-Hamburg_Podolski.html&TEAMHD=germany
As much as I can understand why Cologne wants to bring him back, if Podolski really wants to enhance his career…in no disrespect to Cologne, the HSV is a good choice. The HSV do play European football like on a regular basis, that is for sure…

This seems very sketchy at best. I hope HSV puts some effort in getting Poldi though. It would be sweet to have three German internationals in the squad (Troche, Jansen, Poldi).

In the Bundesliga, I find it highly unlikely that Poldi would play for anyone other than Koln. More than likely, he’s going to move abroad and test himself out there. I think Roma would be a good choice for him, but apparently he’ll settle for Barcelona…!
