On paper, Hamburg’s summer signings really look excellent. Whoever else joins the club from here on will be just more icing on the cake. And Guerrero has really no leverage anymore as far as wage demands are concerned. I think Hamburg could even afford to lose him on a free transfer next summer, with talents like Choupo-Moting ready and waiting.

The thing about vdV is: this is a unique situation and opportunity and if you want to see him in a HSV jersey again before he is in his thirties, then it’s probably now or never. Although, maybe he’ll issue a statement tomorrow how Marca misquoted him and all that…

Though, while we are speculating: his wife Sylvie had been in the jury of some casting show in Germany recently and will be on board for the second season, so maybe the way her, uh, “TV career” is going, she might indeed push him to return to Germany.

I wouldve preferred mathijsen before, but I wouldn’t mind Jaro staying captain for continuity

Rost was BMJ’s choice to be captain as well, but Jol ultimately wanted a player in the field to wear the armband. How about Mathijsen?

Actually, if we want to sign a promising defender, we need money, maybe Hamburg do not have such budget due to the disappeared transfer fee of Kompany and de Jong.
We need a playmaker and I really please to see VDV back
