The phone, TV and the news of the world

The Dinosaur* now sit 2nd in the table on 45 points following a 1-0 victory over Dortmund this Saturday past, with the lone goal coming from Paolo Guerrero, who has recovered nicely from the bout of social disease he contracted during last autumn’s international break (JK-at the time, there were reports that he was out late–and I mean like 5-6AM late–the night before one of Peru’s matches, and then he was inexplicably benched on his return to Hamburg. I joked at the time that he was recovering from a case of gonorrhea or something). I really should start wagering on these things. Bremen lost to Wolfsburg 1-0, dropping back to fourth, behind surging Leverkusen. Leverkusen smashed Nurnberg 4-1 (something HSV were unable to do last week) and are now third on 44 points. We are still in a CL spot, but only 2 points separate Hamburg, Leverkusen and Bremen. The top 2 finishers in the Bundesliga are guaranteed CL spots and third place gets a qualifying spot. So we got the three points we needed, we got yet another slip up from Bremen, and Bayern lost, too. BUT Leverkusen won again. This is getting good.
On a slightly lighter note, I recently purchased FIFA ‘08 for my kids Nintendo Wii and have done nothing else in my waking moments since that time. The new generation of gaming consoles are like crack they are so addictive. It’s no wonder kids today don’t go outside to play anymore. Despite the counter intuitive motions required (like swinging the remote down for a shot instead of up, which is a finesse shot), I am finally getting the hang of the game. I have yet to win a match as HSV (I recently lost to freaking Lens–Lens I tells ya!), and am actively looking for more defenders and a quality striker in the transfer market. I did, however, pound my 10 year-old son mercilessly as he assumed Chelsea (my guilty pleasure in the real worldW) while I was ManYoo. I suggest checking out The FIFA ‘08 Offside Cup here (Xbox 360 version, I believe). HSV aren’t doing too well there either.
*Hamburg are known as the Dinosaur because they have played in Germany’s top league continuously since 1919, and have never been relegated. Anybody get the musical reference? Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?

Good to see someone else on here rocking the Wii. I got FIFA 2008 for it a few weeks back … don’t have the excuse of a kid to buy it for, though … this was a me present. Anyhow, it does in fact kick ass. Maybe if there’s enough Wii 08ers on here, there will someday be an Offside Cup on Wii as well.

Ian, I am soooooo there. BUT, I am really crappy at this game so I need to be Barcelona or ManYoo. I was able to pick up Luca Toni and John Terry for HSV. The drawback is that now in random tournaments, I am squaring off against Roma and Real and United, instead of Lens and Gremio. Still losing too. LOL

I haven’t played with transfers yet. I’ve been teaching myself to play with my Scottish club, Caley Thistle. I’m just so psyched that they’re in the game, since the last FIFA game I played was from before they were in the top flight. Hopefully switching to a top team will make me better, because right now, I suck bad.

Try United or Barcelona. They seem to be tops. Ajax scores at will but if your opponent get the ball past midfield, they will score. I don’t like the interface, tho. My natural inclination is to swing the remote up to shoot (make a hard shot). The toughest thing to learn is the combination when you are in the box–instead of swinging (up or down) when the keeper is on you hitting the A button, then directing the pass to somebody else then swinging a shot or a volley. Oy.

I am going to play the real HSV against Caley Thistle and maybe I’ll win tonight.

I love that League 2 is there as well. How many chances do you get to lead Morecambe out against Bayern Munich?

To be honest, I like the Hamburg mascot Chris.
In my most-girlish squeal - So cute! Now, back to normal self.
Somehow, it reminds me of when I was in China last December visiting my relatives (I have Chinese ancestry and it’s the first time I am in China) when I was at the village and I saw all these ducks walking pass me and I almost squealed at once. LOL! That’s what you get for living in high-rise apartments (which I had been experiencing since I came into this world) and never really see the village life.

To be honest Chris, outside of the Bundesliga, ManYoo is my club. I am the daughter of a ManYoo-crazy father and so in a way, his love for the club (I mean, I grow up hearing about the club from him) which he supported since his schooldays (when Liverpool was so dominant in the 70s) had affected me somehow.
And the both of us don’t like any club which gets in the way in the chase for the Premier League title (cough cough Chelsea).
