Three points in Glasgow!
By: g? | October 22nd, 2009Spirits remain high in the Hamburg locker room, as the decimated Macht v. d. Elbe managed to pull out 3 points from a hard fought game at Celtic Park.
REWIND!
After getting the news that Castelen may be out for his career, which would be horrible news for anyone, and especially for someone who has always seemed to have a positive outlook on his situation, and that Jerome is hurt, one could be forgiven for expecting our Hanseaten to play for the draw, kind of like how Celtic’s bitter rivals made the final a few years ago. But that was not to be the case, as the order of the day was some of the better possession football I’ve seen since we beat Man City. Zé set up Marcus Berg, who slotted it home for the 0-1, which held up thanks to some solid D, and some good (And bad) luck. Celtic plunge to bottom of the table, and HSV are punktgleich with Hapoel on top of group C, after Hapoel hung Rapid Wien out to dry.
Rost saved us more than once, our Dauerbrenner Mathijsen played to his usual standards, Rozehnal didn’t seem to make any glaring errors that I remember, Demel made a few mistakes but held his own. Aogo played a decent game, although I was bothered with his time-wasting late in the game.
Jaro was scrappy and fought for every ball (Surprise, surprise), Zé is still the steal of the year, Jansen was solid in his return from injury, and Elia started weak but got better and better until the end of the game.
Berg played great, and hopefully will carry this scoring touch into the bundesliga finally. Pitroipa is rightfully a HSV Offside fave, as his speed troubled Celtic all night, and set up a number of chances.
All in all, not a bad game from a team thats been decimated by injuries, especially against a desperate Celtic. I’d feel bad, but they’d have to reconsider their friendships first…
Final note: As the team went to thank the 2500 travelling fans, they were blocked by security, and apparently will be reported to UEFA. I call shenanigans to that, and hope that UEFA throws the case out.
Schwarz-weiß-blaue Grüße!

Nice win for HSV during hard times. I’m really happy to see Jansen back in game shape, and I also like the idea of Pitroipa up front. I only got to see the hi-lights, but it looks like he provided some exciting moments today. Also, the set-up to the Berg goal with Ze Roberto looked amazing. Any thoughts on why Berg is playing so well in the Europa League, but near invisible in the Bundesliga?

The front line has some nice contrasts with Pitroipa’s speed and Berg’s size. Having Pitroipa and Elia in at the same time gives us a whole lot of speed on the pitch at once.

wow.
What a game to have missed…
Schalke game just ended, a spectacular 3-3, that we should’ve won, then they should’ve won.
And Berg scored 2.Posted from

Great game for a neutral fan. This was the type of game I expected against Leverkusen and the Leverkusen game was the one I expected against Schalke. Good to see Berg arriving in the Bundesliga as well. Four, on paper, easy games coming up next to take over the top spot. I think Hamburg have proven in all the big matches they played so far, that they can’t be written off as title candidates, even with key players injured. But I’m still not sure about their attitude towards the smaller clubs. If they go into the next four games with the right attitude, they should get between 10 or 12 points.

Exciting match against Schalke, but I wish it didn’t have to be that exciting. I think the way Schalke came back in the second half shows how good a coach Felix Magath is. But even with the draw, it’s good to see that Hamburg have held their own against all the best teams in the Bundesliga and are still right there at the top. Even with all the injuries!

Yup-I thought that we’d for sure leave the Schalke match empty-handed when Petric went down, but it seems as though Berg’s confidence is growing by the day and he is up for the job. Can’t wait ’til we get Petric back, though.
